LIST PICK

SUNNI (COLóN) TECHNICOLOR

Los Angeles based, Parisian art-rocker Thierry Tetsu - otherwise known as Sunni (Colón) - has returned for another dose of breezy future soul with ‘Technicolor’. Like previous List Picks ‘God Is A Woman’ and ‘Yours Truly, 2095’, Sunni delivers Latina rhythms, left-field production and reinvented jazz arrangements that would easily bring a tear to the eye of Frank Ocean. The heaviness of this shuffling, psychedelic instrumentation subsides at the two-minute mark for a simply ticking beat and weird electronic beeps, while Tetsu’s reverberated croon sings his devotion out into the expanse - “it don’t work without you / I came across the universe in seven days / I drifted off the earth to march in your parade.” Other themes that this self-produced artist carries over into ‘Technicolor’ include that of being in love, of one woman being his whole world to the point that his perspective shifts - from black and white bleakness to bright technicolor. this mindfulness is something that Sunni (Colón) has spoken about before - in an interview with the The Fader, he shared that "I’m having a conversation about love and appreciating the present moment, without fixating on the past or future. It’s the little things in life that we as humans sometimes take for granted, and I decided to create a song that enables us to see through a conscious lens.” - Hannah Thacker
